Carter Done Been Got

I watched both the Get Carter movies over a couple days. This one and then this one. The first one was a better film, the second one actually had a moral core. Stallone probably wasn't the right guy for the role.

Spoilers ahead!

In the first film, Michael Caine plays the title character without any concern for anyone. He's only concerned with himself. Even the reason he comes back to town to investigate his brother's death feels like it's because anyone doing something to his brother was an insult to him. He shows a brief moment of compassion when he finds out that his niece has been lured into an underground porn film, but it's just that: brief.

Stallone's film can't decide whether he's a good guy who cares or if he's a stone-cold killer who doesn't care about anything. On the other hand, at least he cares some of the time. He even lets one guy go, which is nothing at all like the first film. Also, the plot doesn't make any sense with the changes they made.  In the end though, frankly, neither film is worth your time.
